Sam Yruegas
Our next Baylor University WISE Graduate Student Seminar Speaker is Sam Yruegas. Sam Yruegas is working on her PhD with Dr. Caleb D. Martin in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry here at Baylor University. Her talk is entitled “Developing Boron-Based Electronic Materials.”
Summary: Benzene is a prominent molecule with widespread applications due to its exceptional stability and unique structure. Our group has been focused on making analogues of benzene that feature boron and a lone-pair bearing heteroatom (i.e. N, P, O, S) in place of two of the carbon atoms. This substitution results in the molecules displaying interesting properties that could be useful for potential applications in electronics. In this presentation, our accomplishments on synthesizing unique boron compounds will be discussed, along with our efforts to make the analogous three-dimensional molecules.
